Antique Art Noveau Bronze / Brass and Glass Table Lamp with Cameo Glass Panels.

A$4,985.00

This is a very good and rare example of a genuine antique European ( probably French ) Art Noveau Brass / Bronze Table Lamp with a cast base and a spun shade embellished with exquisite circular Cameo Glass panels.

The Art Noveau ( New Art ) period was basically from the 1880s up until World War I and which took inspiration from the unruly aspects of the natural world. It was a sensual and organic movement to elevate the status of craft based artisans while rebelling against the sterility of industrialism and the existing academia of fine art.

The glass panels were created by fusing different layers of hot glass together and then etching away unwanted material so as to achieve the end scene. This was referred to as Cameo work and a leading exponent of this technique was Daum Nancy.
