Classic Antiques Sydney is one of the the oldest established family antique dealership in Sydney. Phyllis Loughran started out as a women's fashion designer during the 1940's and opened Gaslight Antiques in a charming cottage on Glebe Point Road, Glebe in 1962. Trading there for years before moving to a larger prominent corner premises also in Glebe, then a move to the Eastern Suburbs to the then newly opened Woollahra Galleries for 5 years before relocating to what was Sydney's most prestigious antique shop strip at Queen Street Woollahra during the 1980's and were located in Woollahra for over 25 years before the shop then moved to a very large showroom in Camperdown opposite Sydney University before securing a large warehouse at Lewisham in the Inner West in 2017 in order to place the collection under one roof. In the main our collection represents English furniture from the late Georgian through to the end of the Victorian period - 1770 to 1901 and is supplemented with French Antiques plus Decor items including Clocks, Statuary, Lamps, Mirrors, Boxes and Collectables.
These days trading as Classic Antiques Sydney the business is run by Phyllis's son ex Interior and Landscape Designer Peter Loughran who is one of Australia's premier and most experienced dealers in fine English Antiques. With a warehouse large enough to view the collection, we can arrange restoration, conservation, upholstery and all manner of skilled artisanal work involving fine antiques. We are situated 15 minuter from the Central Business District and only 25 minutes from Sydney Airport freight terminal where there are specialist shipping agents who can confidently ship items all over the world.
All stock is personally and individually selected by myself based on its age, quality, style, originality, materials, provenance and condition. Supplying the interior decorating trade, we are frequently the first stop for some of Australia's biggest names in the interior design industry looking for that special piece. Our reputation for quality is paramount and we pride ourselves on having sourced all our stock here in Australia with a good percentage of it coming from important private collections and public institutions.
