Antique Japanese Byobu folding Screen / Room Divider

This is a very good example of a genuine Antique Japanese early 1900s late Meiji period to Showa period two fold ‘Byobu’ painted paper screen with a silk brocade border. All in a thin black lacquer frame with brass angle brackets and other embellishments.

Byobu literally means ‘wind wall’ and in Japanese homes these screens were used to block drafts of air.

The subject matter is a female deer with her foal.

Signed in bottom right hand corner.

Condition: Minor tear near signature. Professional conservation can be organised at a cost to us basis.

Size: Height 172 cms x Width 188 cms

These screens make great decorative wall panels.
