These are a beautiful example of a Pair of Vintage earlier 29th century French Christofle Candle Holders and are marked beneath the base.
The Silver plated Bacchanalian cherubs with ‘urns’ supported on their heads are standing on the backs of both gilt and silver plated giant Tortoise which in Taoist philosophy represent the universe and in feng shui are said to be lucky in that they are a sign of good health, longevity and good fortune. Tortoises are divine creatures in both Chinese and Hindu mythology.
