Antique English George IV Rosewood Card Table.

This is a high end quality genuine antique English earlier 1800s early George IV ( 1820 to 1830 ) Card Table beautifully made by craftsmen from prestigious sought after imported Brazilian Rosewood prized for its colour and abstract figuring. These versatile tables are often used as side tables and hall tables.

The top is basically rectangular and swivels 90 degrees and when opened reveals a circular green baize playing surface. Within the frieze section is a hidden storage area for cards etc.

The front of the frieze has a serpentine shaped lower edge and is embellished with quality symmetrical carved embellishments including a central motif with opposed ‘S’ shaped scrolls that are further embellished with additional carvings.

The centre support columns turned and upward tapered and features a large boldly carved Tulip with a lower foliate carved downward turned flange. Below again is a high shaped octagonal collar.

The base is flat and quadruped with vertical sides and with boldly carved Lion paw feet with upper foliate embellished ‘S’ shaped horizontal scrolls. Beneath are the original all brass castor assemblies.

Condition: Excellent virtually original.
