Antique English early Victorian Side Table / Sofa Table.
This is an exceptionally good high quality / genuine antique English early Victorian Side Table / Sofa Table made by professional craftsmen at the renowned cabinet makers Holland and Sons.
The rectangular top has rounded corners and a lambs tongue edge molding. and is finished in book leaf matched Walnut with a narrow banding of Rosewood.
The frieze section has a pair of flush fitting side by side drawers with a foliate carved and scrolled in the French Louis XV manner embellishment at either end. The lower edge has an elongated lower beading and the table is double sided with the frieze finished all round so the table may free stand away from a wall.
There are nicely turned and well profiled full height end support columns embellished with flutes in the Louis XVI manner. The supports terminate on shaped plinth bases embellished with turned and carved patera positioned above the lobed flattened bun feet with original all brass castor assemblies beneath.
Provenance: Stamped in drawer with the stamp used between 1843 and 1845 - Holland and Sons Belgrave Square London. Holland and Sons due to their reputation as cabinetmakers of high quality craftsmanship held the Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria and supplied Government and Royalty with furniture for Windsor Castle, Balmoral, Osborne House and Marlborough House. They exhibited at the Great Exhibition, London International, Paris and Vienna Exhibitions. Examples of Holland and Sons work is on exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
