This is a rare find in Australia. it is a genuine antique English 19th century later George IV / William IV period circa 1830 adjustable Folio Stand superbly crafted from top quality prestigious imported selected well figured Rosewood from Brazil now mellowed with age to a lovely mid / deep honey colour.
Both sections of the frame are adjustable via brass hinges and a double ratchet mechanism, one for each support so they can be positioned individually. The squared lattice like frames can be arranged almost horizontally to form a flatter surface or vertically so as to hold maps, prints, paintings or documents etc. The frame support is connected by a well turned cross stretcher featuring well carved opposed elongated Tulips and the base is a flat ‘H’ shaped plinth which houses the ratchet mechanisms and have the original all brass castor assemblies beneath.
Condition: Pieces like this have normally had a sheltered life in a specific room in a prestigious home and like this one is in near perfect desirable original condition.
