This is a fine quality beveled oval mirror plate set within a superior quality and extensively embellished carved and gilt frame in the French Louis XV Baroque / Rococo manner.

The inner frame around the beveled mirror plate is oval in form and embellished with carved fish scales and the outer impressive frame is profusely hand carved featuring symmetrical dimensional Acanthus leaf foliate scrolls to either side and a central lower scallop shell motif. The carved frame has been sealed with gesso and water gilded. Acanthus leaves were historically associated with immortality and resurrection.

Condition: Excellent commensurate with age and use.
