Vintage Italian 18th century style Mirror

A$1,345.00

On offer is a stylish and very decorative hand carved and gilt vintage ( almost antique ) frame made in Italy in the French Rococo manner and housing the original mirror plate which features the older 19th century ‘chemical silvering’ technique resulting in the slightly softer grey reflection as against todays brighter vacuum aluminum coated mirrors.

The frame is essentially symmetrical with both an inner and outer frame connected by French ‘C’ shaped scrolls, Acanthus foliage ( and a scallop ( Pecten ) shell towards the bottom. The top of the frame is particulary heavily embellished with symmetrical French Louis influenced ‘S’ and ‘C’ shaped opposed scrolls with foliage and flowers on the shoulders. The focal point is a top central large asymmetrical combination of scroll and foliage. The opposed ‘S’ shaped scrolls and leaves are repeated at the bottom tapering to another stylised shell.

Condition: Near excellent commensurate with both age and use with only a minor af to the very bottom.

Size: Width 66cm x Height 114cm.

Price: Was $1,495 now offered for $1,345.

Sellers Observation: A very good example of its type in a popular style.
