Antique English Set of 12 Victorian Mahogany Dining Chairs.

A$4,750.00

A good and substantial hard to find long set of 12 antique last quarter of the 19th century English Victorian Dining Chairs with Mahogany 'show timber' frames attributed to Shoolbred, who was a famous English maker at Tottenham Court Road London. The Mahogany frames have studded leather upholstery to the padded backs and the sprung seats..

An image of a near identical design attributed to Shoolbred appears in the Pictorial Guide to English 19th Century Furniture.

Condition: The frames are structurally sound and the leather is in good to very good overall condition with minor imperfections commensurate with age and use and the leather upholstered seats are sprung for comfort and the seats and padded backs are finished with individually applied brass studs.

Size: Width 50 cm x Seat Depth 49cm x Height 92cm. H: 92cm W: 50cm D: 49cm.

Price: Our vendor paid well over $6,500 for the set of 12 chairs back in the 1980s and then spent almost as much again on tightening frames and sprung seats with full leather upholstery finished with individually applied brass studs etc. They can now be purchased about 40 years later for only $4,750.

Sellers Observation: Ideal for a function room or perfect in a traditional Board Room or a traditional dining room. At less than $400 per chair for a rare long set of set of twelve they are very inexpensive.

Ref: DC 21.
