Antique English Victorian Winfield Rocking Chair.
On offer is a rare genuine antique English mid Victorian period Winfield Rocking Chair.
Designed by Peter Cooper for the Winfield Company of Birmingham England and first exhibited at the first World Exposition in 1851.
The chair design is a wonderful example of early modernism with its sides of curved flowing lines of hand forged strap iron connected by tubular rods and secured by brass nuts so the chairs could be disassembled and reassembled hence they are sometimes referred to as campaign furniture.
The upholstery comprises of a padded leather suspended from the top cross bar which then passes over a curved section of timber slats which formed the seat shape. At the top is an attached padded and buttoned rectangular head rest.
Condition: This chair is currently in original aged as is condition. The frame and timber are excellent and will clean up however the leather seat has a hole in it. The good news is that we can have the upholstery recovered i9n a col;our of your choice and at a trade price ie cost to us only basis.
