This is an impressive exceptional and rare limited edition No 3 Bentwood Rocking Chair made by Thonet circa 1885.

Bentwood beech furniture was pioneered by Michael Thonet at Vienna Austria in 1856.

This is a rare limited release model of larger size and features hand grips instead of the typical large curved bentwood arms. It also has a deep rear foot board for assisted rocking of the chair as well as top rear hand grips for doing the same Some versions have a sling leather arm rest however this chair shows no evidence of ever having any leather arm rests.

Condition: The back panel and the seat panel both have hand caned rattan which is in perfect condition. The finish on the frame is in aged original.

Sellers Observation: You probably will not find another like it as this model is rare and I have images of one ( with damaged rattan ) selling on an international on line selling site for $ and the site giving a price range of between $4,300 and $6,500 so this rocking chair is a great buy in Australia.
