This is a very nice better than average quality genuine antique English early Victorian period Book Case which may also be used as a Display Cabinet.
The book case is of reasonably compact size is well proportioned and the case is made of and finished in imported prestigious Central American Honduran Mahogany. of good figuring and rich colour.
The upper Display / Book Case section has a well defined carveto curved cornice and pediment above a shelved cabinet with two glazed paneled ( original glass ) doors with raised half round moldings which at the top convert into foliate serpentine scrolled moldings with feature central crest carvings. At either side of the doors are top mounted very well carved embellished applied ‘S’ scrolled corbels in the French Louis manner which are complimented by inverted carved ‘S’ scrolls at the bottom.
The lower Storage Cabinet has a protruding frieze section with upper and lower moldings and a pair of well figured ‘flame’ paneled doors beneath. inside is a full width shelf. The lower cabinet features the same combination of upper and inverted lower foliate carved ‘S’ scrolled corbels as the upper cabinet.
All supported on a plinth base which retains its corner positioned turned flattened bun feet.
Condition: Very desirable original condition. Complete with key and with British Antique Dealers Association transfer seal.
