Antiqe English early Victorian period circa 1850 two height Mahogany Book Case.

A$7,485.00

A genuine antique Victorian Book Case for the discerning buyer who wants a much better than average book Case. This is a very superior quality example of a book case from this period being ‘low waisted’ and very well proportioned plus having many superior quality details.

Beautifully made by master craftsmenfrom lovely imported prestigious Central American Honduran Mahogany of good colour and fine figuring. The cornice is a combination of convex and carvetto moldings.

The upper Display cabinet has two glazed panelled doors with upper ‘C’ scrolled glazing bars. On the narrow uprights either side of the doors area applied impressive and boldly carved scrolled corbels. A most impressive feature of this cabinet is the central vertical divider which allows the short shelves to be staggered and placed where required on both sides of the cabinet. An additional sign of superior quality is that the inside of the doors are French polished.

The lower Storage Cabinet has a pair of side by side flush fitting drawers that pull out from beneath in the protruding frieze. Below are a pair of recessed gently arched ‘blind’ timber panelled doors with raised perimeter moldings and either side of the doors on the uprights once again are nicely carved corbels so as to compliment and balance the top section. All supported on a plinth base.
