Antique Georgian Mahogany inlaid Drop Front Bureau / Desk.
On offer is a genuine antique English early 1800s George III period drop front Writing Bureau / Writing Desk. This item is not only practical however is a rather decorative piece due to its very good proportions and its added inlay embellishments. The bureau / Desk case is very well made from solid boards of prestigious imported Central American Mahogany of very good figuring and colour.
When opened there is a well fitted interior of pigeon holes and drawers plus an inlaid feature recessed paneled door with secret compartments on either side concealed behind leather book bindings.
Below are four full width graduated Oak lined drawers all with brass drawer pull hardware and keyhole escutcheons plus cock bead moldings.
All the internal and external drawers like the sloping drop front have outer broard lighter decorative Satinwood cross banding accompanied with fine line inlays as does the drop front which also features a large and highly decorative inlaid Urn with scrolling flowers and leaves in Satinwood and various fruit woods flowing symmetrically from either side. The writing compartment centre cupboard door is also recess paneled with decorative floral inlays.
The bureau / desk stands on straight corner bracket feet.
Condition: Near excellent for age as the desk may have been refurbished and embellished during the later 19th century early 20th century Georgian revival period.
