Antique English William IV Mahogany Cylinder Desk.
This is a rare ‘combination’ piece of furniture comprising of a Chiffonier incorporating a Cylinder Writing Desk.
It is a very high quality genuine antique English 19th century William IV period 1830 to 1837 combination Chiffonier and Cylinder Desk crafted from the finest heavy and dense prized Mahogany.
The upper backboard is of pointed architectural form with opposed foliate carved embellishments at either side. There is a full width gallery shelf supported bu carved double ‘C’ shaped scrolls in the French Louis manner.
The canterlevering frieze section contains the cylinder desk when opened has a pull out slide with a beautiful inset leather writing surface which features both blind and gold decorative tooling. At the rear of the desk are a row of pigeon holes above four side by side drawers with complimentary veneered drawer fronts. The base section features a pair of side by side drawers with a pair of graduated full width drawers below. All drawers have a shaped perimeter molding and like the desk original brass locks and turned drawer pull knobs. On either side of the drawers are full height French ‘S’ shaped scrolled cabriole like engaged pilasters carved on all three sides.
The whole stands on a rectangular plinth base.
Condition: Excellent virtually original and complete with an original key.
