Antique Japanese Meiji / Tasho Tansu Chest.

On offer is a good and aesthetically attractive decorative and [practical antique traditional portable Japanese early 1900s Tansu Chest.

This type is called an Isho Dansu and is a two part stacking chest for storing clothes.

The chest is typically made from nicely figured Pine and has a red lacquer finish and features hand forged decorative iron work including locks handles corner brackets and bindings.

The top section is divided into two sections and on the left hand side are two stacked drawers while on the other side is a small top drawer with an iron bound cupboard door beneath which when opened reveals two similar sized stacked drawers within.

The bottom section has two equal depth full width stacked drawers.

Both sections have iron carry handles on the sides and all drawers and the cupboard are lockable. We have the cupboard key.

Condition: Over all very good commensurate to age and use. Some splitting to the pine back boards which is not unusual and to be expected with Pine.
