Antique English Colonial Campaign Chest of Drawers.

A$3,495.00

This is a good example of a genuine antique English mid 1800s Victorian period Campaign Chest of Drawers.

Typically of rectangular form and in two sections for ease of transport both top and bottom sections are constructed from solid Teak and have typical brass corner brackets and angle brackets for both protection and durability. The top section has two top side by side drawers with a deeper full width drawer beneath. The lower section has two stacked full width drawers. All drawers are flush fitting and dovetailed in their construction. All drawers are complete with their original recessed brass drawer pull handles and brass keyhole escutcheons. All the drawers have early two tongue brass locks and the first of the full width drawers is fitted with a Bramah lock which were very secure and expensive.

The Bramah lock was invented in 1784 by Joseph Bramah and is recognised as the first known ‘high security’ design lock.

The chest stands on four turned later feet.

Condition: Over all very good considering the life these pieces spent being carried around on Military campaigns There are a few old deficiencies that have been attended to over the years and the chest presents well and has a good patina.

Size: Width 900cm x Depth 450cm x Height 975cm.

Price: $3,495.

Sellers Observation: Military furniture like campaign chests are collectable and are tightly held as they are prized for being highly decorative as well as being practical. Hence they are becoming rare and hard to come by.
